Has your AC stopped working completely? Check out these AC conditioning repair tips and learn how you can make your unit functional again
You may experience some troubleshoot problems with your AC unit, just like everybody else, but what should you do if your AC has stopped working completely? Perhaps this has already happened to you, either way, it’s never too late to start learning something new.
The first thing you need to know is that… If your central air conditioner doesn’t go on automatically when the thermostat signals the need for cooling, then probably the thermostat isn’t working. In order to make sure there are no other issues involved, check and see if the thermostat is set to cool and the temperature setting is below the ambient temperature.
Here are the steps that you need to take in case your AC units stops working completely:
- Check the main electrical panel and any secondary circuit panels for a tripped breaker or blown fuse.
- Make sure the furnace power switch is turned on and that the outdoor condenser’s power switch hasn’t been shut off.
- Turn off the power to the air conditioner and check the thermostat.
- If nothing seems to be working by now, open the thermostat again and unscrew the wire from the Y terminal. After that you can turn the power back on. While you are holding the wire by its insulation only, touch the bare end to the R terminal and hold it there for about two minutes. If the compressor kicks on, you will know the thermostat is the problem.
